Santiago de Cuba Travel Guide - Cuba
Santiago de Cuba is Cuba's second largest city, with a population of close to half a million. It is Havana's strongest rival in literature, music, art and culture, and is home to one of Cuba's best educational centers, the Universidad de Oriente.
Santiago is probably Cuba's most Caribbean city, as it was originally a French settlement that welcomed Haitian, Spanish and African cultures during the 19th century. A port city located in the half submerged valley of the Sierra Maestra, Santiago de Cuba continues to be an important gateway of commerce.
